How to read this

Services, not goods

This covers services, such as restaurants, travel and holidays. It does not cover goods such as food, clothes or petrol.

Compared with a year ago

Each figure compares service prices with the same month a year earlier. It is not the change since last month.

Not the 2% target

The 2% target applies to overall CPI. This measure has no target of its own.

Leaves out some housing costs

It leaves out council tax, and the cost of housing services for an owner. Those are in CPIH. This figure follows CPI, so it leaves them out too.
